John 12:23 “…The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.”
The New Testament talks about two kinds of time. Chronos is the one we all use on a daily basis. It’s the way we measure the passing of life, the minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. The old language of the New Testament the word for calendar is chronos. We are all very conscious of the calendar, we plot our lives around our watch and our calendar.
Another time is Kairos. This has to do with quality rather than quantity — that which is happening in a particular space in time. Kairos is spoken of in John 12:23 … The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified (NKJV).” In Jesus’ chronos His Kairos had come.
Kairos is time seasoned with meaning, God’s Kairos, is time that is completely seasoned with God’s presence and purpose.
Holy week is a period on the Christian calendar that is set aside for His disciples to give special attention to Kairos. No other space in time, in God’s salvation history is so packed with profound meaning and potential power as Holy Week.
And so it is up to us, to determine whether it will be just another occasion of religious observation or Kairos, a time when God’s spirit will touch our lives with such power that Christ will come alive in us, and we will know the mystery and meaning of the cross in a transforming way.
Our Lord and our God, help us as we move through this week to be aware of your time.
